Tapered Optical Fibers: Fabrication Techniques and Applications
Tapered optical fibers have been investigated for more than four decades. Today, these optical fiber elements continue to be applied to meet various demands in optics. This talk will review some fabrication techniques, from the initial proposals to new low-cost alternatives that allow accessible production. Additionally, we will discuss some prominent applications of tapered optical fibers, from their demonstrations as high-sensitivity sensors to their integration in chip-to-fiber coupling systems. These applications demonstrate the versatility of tapered optical fibers and highlight their relevance in emerging areas such as integrated photonics and portable devices.
